A particularly good early production Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller, dating to the early 1960s. A highly desirable and authentic example of this iconic mid-century modern design, acquired directly from the original owner.
The chair features beautifully figured Brazilian rosewood plywood shells, displaying exceptional depth and variation in tone. Notably, the inner faces of the shells are also veneered in rosewood an important detail associated with early Herman Miller production and sought after by collectors of vintage Eames design.
The original black leather upholstery remains in excellent condition, having developed a soft, even patina consistent with age and careful use. These 1960s chairs feature feather down and latex filled cushions. These early feather filled cushions give a wonderfully sumptuous and comfortable seating experience compared to later foam filled chairs.
This Eames lounge chair is presented in completely original condition. It has been professionally and sympathetically cleaned and polished, preserving the integrity of the materials while enhancing overall presentation to showroom condition. The shock mounts have been checked and are completely solid.
It is interesting to note that this age chair represents the most faithful to Charles & Ray Eames original design. From the 70’s subtle changes were made to the dimensions of the plywood shells so we do regard this age chair as a true original lounge chair.
