An exceptional and highly sought-after Finn Juhl Model 138 lounge chair, designed in the late 1950s and produced by France & Son.
Crafted in solid teak, this iconic Danish modern lounge chair is a superb example of Juhl’s sculptural approach to furniture design. The Model 138 is particularly admired for its refined proportions and elegant floating seat, often considered to exhibit an even stronger Japanese aesthetic than the better-known Model 137 “Japan Chair”.
The chair has been sympathetically reupholstered in premium textile from Kvadrat, carefully chosen to complement the warmth of the teak frame. The original internal metal spring system remains intact within both the seat and backrest, ensuring excellent comfort and support.
Importantly, the cushions have retained their correct, relatively slim profile—faithful to Finn Juhl’s original design intent—allowing the distinctive floating seat and exposed structural elements to remain visually prominent.
This example retains an early France & Son maker’s badge to the reverse, dating production to the late 1950s.
A rare opportunity to acquire an original Finn Juhl Model 138 lounge chair in excellent condition, ideal for collectors and interiors seeking an authentic piece of mid century Danish design.
