An exceptional early example Eames Lounge Chair by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller, dating from the 1960s.
This piece features the highly desirable feather down-filled cushions associated with earlier production, offering a notably softer and more luxurious seating experience than later versions. Early examples of the Eames Lounge Chair are increasingly scarce, particularly when found in such a rare and attractive butterscotch leather originally specified as a premium upholstery option.
The warm, light tan tones of the leather are beautifully complemented by the richly figured Brazilian rosewood veneers, creating a refined and timeless material contrast.
The chair has been carefully and sympathetically restored, with close attention paid to preserving its original character:
The seat cushion has been discreetly secured using Velcro, as the original clips had worn through the backing—a well-documented issue with chairs of this period. This solution avoids replacing the original backing, thereby preserving the correct profile and appearance of the cushion, while providing a secure and durable alternative. We have used this method on our own chair at home for many years.
A rare opportunity to acquire a particularly early and highly collectible example of this iconic mid-century modern design, presented in an especially desirable colourway.
