An original 1970s Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller.
This is a particularly elegant example, dating to the mid-1970s and executed in richly figured Brazilian rosewood, paired with original black leather upholstery. The veneers display excellent depth and variation, with a warmth and character that has developed beautifully over time.
The chair was acquired from its original owner, an architect who purchased it from Heal’s, Tottenham Court Road, in 1975.
It has been thoughtfully and sympathetically restored, with a focus on preserving originality. The leather remains in excellent condition, showing an even, attractive patina consistent with age and use, while the rosewood shells have been cleaned and repolished to enhance their natural figure without compromising authenticity.
Importantly, this is a completely original example, retaining all of its original components with no replacements.
Few designs achieve the balance of comfort, craftsmanship, and enduring appeal found in the Eames Lounge Chair. Examples from this period, particularly in Brazilian rosewood, are becoming increasingly scarce and remain highly sought after by collectors and designers alike.
We currently also hold two Eames Lounge chairs in stock, one upholstered in a rare butterscotch leather and the other an early production with black leather.
